Continuing the series of the silver coins featuring Australian Sea Life on the Reef, is the 2011 Starfish 1/2 oz Silver Proof Coin.
The Reef series includes a total of five different coins depicting some of the inhabitants of Australia's seas. The first release featured the Hawksbill Turtle, followed by the present coin. The last three coins will feature the Surgeonfish, Octopus, and Manta Ray.

The 2011 Starfish 1/2 oz. Silver coin depicts the starfish or "sea star" on the reverse design. These creatures live in Australia's tropical to temperate seas and can often be found in rock pools. The design of the coin is colored and includes the Perth Mint's "P" mint mark. Inscriptions read "Australian Sea Life II The Reef" and "Starfish".
On the obverse of the coin is the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The inscriptions include the precious metals content of "1/2 oz 999 silver" and the Australian legal tender face value of "50 Cents".
This issue has a limited mintage of only 10,000 pieces. The certificates of authenticity are numbered. Each coin is packaged in a display case with illustrated shipper. When all shippers in the series are aligned, it creates a full underwater scene.
